Pancho Returns

 PanĨevo, Serbia - 16 May, 2021

Shit damn, cowboy; first post in almost 10 years.

I've been bopping around a lot these last 6 months: Saigon, Cuenca, Arusha, and now in a small town 15 miles outside Belgrade.

I feel rather isolated and friendless here. The guy I bought my 2003 Honda Shadow 1100cc bike from, Igor, is a kind of friend, but not a homey. He's a good man, but I envision limitations, because of age, backgrounds, lifestyles, etc.

Ain't she beautiful? And runs like a charm. Gutsy, responsive, and a joy to ride. But with fuel at $5.95/gallon in Serbia, I don't ride as freely as I'd like to. That's 80% higher than US prices at $3.31/gallon.

I've been fantasizing taking this bike to Spain since I can't imagine a winter season in Serbia, but when I checked fuel prices in Spain on the site, I discovered they come in at $6.17/gallon, so that's not looking like a viable solution.

I'm going back....

I'm heading back to the states on 17 November.

Back to Dallas, the big D. Never lived there before but spent some nice time.

It has great galleries, some nice restaurants...not sure what else.

It's a 6-month stint. From there, probably back to Thailand and Chiang Mai.

Ray Wylie Hubbard

Went to see Ray tonight at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. Wowser, that man's very special. It's not just his great playing, his Wimberley-cool Texas lyrics, his folksy sense of humor.

No, more than all of that, it's just Ray's warm, loving heart that shines though and forces me to go see him anytime he's within a two hour drive of Austin.

Thanks, Ray.
